Get quotes from auto transport companies. There are many to choose from when looking to ship a vehicle to Alaska. Be sure to get quotes from at least three different companies in order to have a good comparison.
Before deciding which transport company to use, be sure to get and check their references. Also, if they are a member of the Better Business Bureau check their rating to ensure they do not have any unresolved claims against them.
Let your insurance company know that you will be shipping your vehicle and make sure that it is covered while in transit. Most major auto transport companies have insurance that will cover the vehicle, but it's always best to check with your personal auto insurance carrier as well.
Get the vehicle ready for transport. The vehicle must have less than a quarter tank of gas in it to transport. The keys will need to be left in the vehicle, and all of the doors should remain unlocked at all times while it's being transported. You can pack personal belongings in the vehicle but they may not be covered by insurance if they are lost, damaged or stolen.
Make arrangements for a rental car or use of another vehicle. Once your vehicle is picked up for transport, you will be without the vehicle for up to 14 days.
