Camping in Nelson British Columbia Canada

Nelson, British Columbia is a city close to the Selkirk Mountains to the west of Kootenay Lake. This area provides several opportunities for camping and other outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, fishing and bird-watching.
  1. Campgrounds

    • There are seven campgrounds listed on the Discover Nelson website. The camping season in and around Nelson runs from May 1 to Sept. 30. The average listed camping fee, in late 2010, is $17 Canadian.

    RV Parks

    • The Nelson area contains eight RV parks. These parks can accommodate RVs as well as traditional tent campers. These RV parks offer full hookups, with some also offering showers, lakefront access and boat launches.

    Considerations

    • Most of these campgrounds are settled around water, either Kootenany Lake or Kokanee Creek, various smaller creeks and even a section of the Columbia River. These are prime spots for boaters and anglers, so it is a good idea to reserve your campsites far ahead of the most popular midsummer season.
