Federal Campgrounds in Florida

With its subtropical climate and seemingly endless coastline, Florida is an ideal destination for a camping vacation. Nicknamed "The Sunshine State," Florida is home to many attractions, such as the Pensacola Naval Air Station, Daytona International Speedway and Everglades National Park. Campers can find many campgrounds throughout the state that are managed by the federal government. These parks tend to be larger and offer a wider range of recreational opportunities than privately owned campgrounds.
  1. Fort Pickens Campground

    • Fort Pickens Campground is located on the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Gulf Breeze, about a half-hour south of Pensacola. Managed by the National Park Service, the campground offers 200 campsites suitable for tents and RVs less than 58 feet long. Campsites include 50-amp service, water, a picnic table and fire ring. Campground amenities include several miles of private beach, nature trails and bicycle paths, fishing areas, boat ramps, playgrounds, historic sites and picnic areas. Campground services include bathrooms and shower houses, sanitary dump stations and a convenience store. Fort Pickens Campground is pet-friendly and is open year-round.

    Salt Springs Recreation Area

    • The Salt Springs Recreation Area is nestled between the St. Johns and Ocklawaha Rivers in the Ocala National Forest of Salt Springs, less than two hours north of Orlando. Managed by the USDA Forest Service, the campground offers 160 campsites suitable for tents and RVs less than 58 feet long. Full-service campsites include 50-amp service, water, sewer, a picnic table, lantern post, barbecue grill and fire pit. Campground amenities include swimming in a natural mineral spring, nature trails and bicycle paths, a fishing canal with boat ramps, basketball court, horseshoe pits, picnic areas and a public marina. Campground services include bathrooms and shower houses, a sanitary dump station, laundry facility, convenience store and visitors center. The Salt Springs Recreation Area is pet-friendly and is open year-round.

    St. Lucie South Campground

    • St. Lucie South Campground is situated along the Okeechobee Waterway in Stuart, about an hour and a half north of Fort Lauderdale. Managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the campground offers 12 campsites suitable for tents and RVs, and eight cruiser-campsites for boats. Full-service campsites include 50-amp service, water, a picnic table, barbecue grill and fire ring. Cruiser-campsites can only accommodate boats in the water and include 50-amp service and water hookups. A highlight of the campground is the St. Lucie locks and dam. Additional campground amenities include nature trails, fishing areas, a boat ramp, playground and waterfront picnic areas. Campground services include a bathroom, shower house and sanitary dump station. St. Lucie South Campground is pet-friendly and is open year-round.
