Tent Campgrounds in California

Encompassing a total area of 158,706 square miles, California, the third largest state in the United States, has plenty of tent camping sites to choose from. Outdoor enthusiasts can either camp in an R.V., pop-up trailer, or cabin. Other options include sleeping in a tent or just in a sleeping bag underneath the stars. When selecting a campground, check to see if it's a full-service facility or a primitive campground. Full-service campgrounds will provide everything from warm water and breakfast to Wi-Fi capability. Primitive campgrounds leave you to fend for yourself.

    • The Acton / Los Angeles North Campground is independently-owned and operated and has various tent camping sites available. Amenities of this campground include an outdoor pool, volleyball and basketball court, playground, sandbox, showers, laundry facilities and much more. Campers can leave the campsite to visit nearby attractions such as Six Flags Magic Mountain, Hurricane Harbor, Disneyland, the L.A. Zoo and Universal Studios Hollywood. Reservations can be made online or by phone. If you need to cancel your reservation, you will be charged a $10 fee. Campers planning to stay at this campground should be at least be 21 years of age. Anyone under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.

    Barstow / Calico Campground

    • Rent a bicycle to get around.

      This independently-owned and operated campground is open year-round and is located between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Kids will have fun playing on the playground or in the family swimming pool. Other activities, attractions and amenities include bicycle rental, an ATV playground, a climbing wall, a convenience store, LP gas, showers, bathrooms, free Internet and firewood. Attractions outside the campground include the Calico Ghost Town and the Calico Early Man Archaeological Site.

    San Francisco North / Petaluma Campground

    • Located in the San Francisco Bay area, this campground is one of California's top choices. The campground welcomes families and group campers, and attractions include a recreational program, inflatable waterslide, pool and spa, mega playground, karaoke, hayrides and live weekend entertainment. Attractions nearby include the Golden Gate Bridge, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and Redwood Forest National Park.

    Trinity Lake Campground

      Trinity Lake Campground in Northern California is open from May 13 through October 1. As the name suggests, this campground is located at the edge of a lake. The campground lies in a wooded area that is 90 acres in size. Fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking and boating are all possible here. Campers can also choose to visit a museum or gallery, a coffeehouse or the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park. Campground amenities include free firewood and Wi-Fi.
