Campgrounds in Lake Almanor, California

If boating is considered your favorite recreational activity, then Lake Almanor, California, should be considered as one of your top camping destinations. Located in Northern California, Lake Almanor provides families, couples and individuals a camping experience filled with a multitude of water sports activities. In addition the artificial lake, nestled within the Lassen National Forest, provides excellent fishing opportunities for anglers.   1. The Almanor South Campgrounds

    • The Almanor South Campgrounds provide campers with 22 campsites featuring hiking and biking along the winding paths such as the Lake Almanor Recreational Trail. During winter the trail provides outdoorsmen with a cross country skiing or snowshoeing path. During the warmer climates, this campground offers fishing opportunities in the lake as well as in nearby streams. Boating, water skiing and swimming provide campers different recreational activity options. Boat launch and ramp amenities facilitate the camper's efforts to explore the water. The campground also provides amphitheatre facilities. Reservations are encouraged at least four days prior to arrival.

    The North Shore Campground

    • The North Shore Campground provides a “worry free” comfortable camping experience along the lake’s shoreline. A great feature of this campground is the lake-front campsites that offer easy access to water activities such as boating, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing or parasailing. In addition, anglers enjoy the immense fishing opportunities that give them chance to catch trout, bass, salmon or catfish. If campers prefer activities on land, they can hike the many winding trails nearby or try a little bird watching and catch a glimpse of Osprey, bald eagles, mountain quails and many other birds that live in the nearby forest. Children can enjoy riding bikes along the paths or exploring the playground. The facilities include RV sites with hookups, tent sites with water, guest house rentals and pull throughs. In addition the North Shore Campground offers hot showers, flush toilets and coin-operated laundry facilities.

    Rocky Point Campground

    • Rocky Point Campground offers visitors well more than 100 campsites with full hookups and phone service. Fishing, swimming and boating are among the top recreational activities that many campers enjoy. White-water paddling can be found near the camp at the Indian Creek Feather Tributary or at the Feather River North Fork. In addition, finding challenging paths for hikers to experience near the campground is an easy task as Rocky Point is near trails such as Pacific Crest Trail and Yellow Creek Trail.

    The Ponderosa Campground

    • The Ponderosa Campground, PG&E Recreational Area, offers outdoor enthusiasts 63 camp sites and 20 overflow sites from which to choose. In addition, campers who enjoy boating find that the Alder Creek Boat Ramp Day Use Area facilitates boating adventures. Anglers enjoy the challenge of the lake and reel in local brown and stocked rainbow trout. If campers are more comfortable with land activities, they can hike the many trails paved along the pine woodlands.

      Located on the north end of the Butt Reservoir, on the east shore of the lake, six miles northwest of Lake Almanor Dam on Hwy. 89. Take Butt Valley Road south for 3.2 miles.
