While there is no camping on the lake, you may camp nearby at the Los Alamos Campground. This campground is less than a mile from the lake and there is space to park your boat or jet skis. The campground has 93 sites, most of which have full hookups. Camping is for RV or tent camping, and there are several pull-through sites. Group campsites are also available. Reservations may be made, or you can show up and take your chances.
Pyramid Lake RV Resort is on the other side of the Interstate, and a mile away from Pyramid Lake. This RV campground is a resort in its own right, and provides easy access to the lake. The campground has more than 100 sites, and 50 of them are pull-through sites. Full hookups, 30- or 50-amp service, is available. TV and free Wi-Fi are available for campers. Showers are available in the clubhouse. Activities are planned at the clubhouse and at the pool. Six two-bedroom cabins are also available.
Castaic Lake is about 10 miles south of Pyramid Lake, and you may camp on the south edge of the lake. This lake is part of the California Reservoir System, along with Pyramid Lake. There are 60 campsites available and about half of them are on the lakefront. There are no water or electric hookups available. An amphitheater is available for groups and can accommodate about 60 people. Park officials put on programs there at times. Public restrooms and showers are available.
Pyramid Lake is in the Los Padres National Forest, and near the Angeles National Forest. There are remote areas for camping in both forests, and within 30 miles there are several campgrounds. These campgrounds are remote and have few services. Water and restrooms are usually available. The Santa Clara Mojave Rivers Ranger District is near lake Castaic and has campgrounds and cabins in the woods about 15 miles south of Pyramid Lake. Campgrounds at Los Padres National Forest are about 20 miles west on State Highway 33.
