Green Valley Campground consists of 37 campsites scattered beneath a canopy of tall oak and conifer trees. The campsites are open to both tents and RVs, and each one includes a campfire ring and picnic table. Electric, water and sewer hookups are not available, but the campground has centrally located bathhouses with flush toilets, and several spigots throughout the campground provide potable drinking water.
Green Valley Lake affords excellent trout fishing opportunities just a five-minute drive from Green Valley Campground. A current California fishing license is required, and the lake is also open to swimming and boating. The area around Green Valley Campground is home to several trails, including the 4.6-mile Little Green Valley Trail for both hiking and mountain biking. This trail traverses difficult terrain, but rewards hikers with striking views of the surrounding landscape.
You can place a reservation to stay at Green Valley Campground by phone or online through Recreation.gov. Reservations are available at 23 campsites, while the other 14 are available only on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground is open from May to October, but exact dates vary from year to year. Bears are known to frequent the area, so be sure to use appropriate food and trash storage containers.
Green Valley Campground is the only campground in the immediate vicinity of Green Valley Lake, but the surrounding National Forest offers a variety of other camping options. The Fisherman's Group Camp, about a one-hour drive from Green Valley Lake, has four large tent sites for groups of up to eight people. The nearby Crab Flats Campground has 27 family campsites for tents and RVs with amenities similar to those at Green Valley Campground.
