Situated between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, the 3,033-acre Fort Custer Recreational Area offers three campgrounds. The group-use campground has two campsites, the rustic cabins provide three accommodations, both with vault toilets, and the modern campground has 219 semi-modern campsites with electrical services and restrooms. Facilities include a beach house and picnic shelter. Campers have access to three lakes, a forest and a river. The multi-use trails accommodate horses, mountain biking, hiking, dog sledding and cross-country skiing.

Waterloo Portage Lake Campground sits on a section of the 20,000-acre Waterloo Recreational Area in Chelsea. Trails nearby include the Waterloo-Dry Marsh and Waterloo-Pinckney Trails for hiking, cross-country skiing and hiking. The modern campground offers 136 sites with 50-amp electricity, including asphalt pad and pull-through sites. Activities include fishing, swimming, picnicking, and sunbathing. Other accommodations in this recreational area include 25 sites for campers with horses and three rustic cabins.

Cool Springs Campground is located three hours from Detroit, Michigan. This campground offers 76 tent sites and 20 RV sites. The trailer sites include 20- and 30-amp electricity and water. Guests may opt to rent a tent, cabin or RV. Facilities encompass a pavilion with fireplace, shower houses and dump station.
