Campgrounds in Cleveland, Tennessee

Cleveland is located just off Interstate 75 in southeastern Tennessee, along the road to Chattanooga. Surrounded by the mountains and forests of that part of the state, and not far from the Tennessee River, the town is a central location for campers looking to pursue the numerous opportunities in the area for nature watching, hiking, boating and fishing.
  1. Chattanooga North/Cleveland KOA

    • The Cleveland KOA is fairly typical of this national campground chain in that it offers sites for both tent and RV campers, as well as one- and two-bedroom rental "kabins." The KOA has a pair of lightly wooded tent areas, both of which are separated from the RV camping areas by a creek that runs through the property. The features and facilities of the Cleveland KOA include showers, coin laundry, camp store with LP gas and firewood sales, free Wi-Fi access, bicycle rentals and a swimming pool. Situated off Interstate 75, this KOA offers a convenient location for campers who are interested in making the trip down to Chattanooga and its sights, which include two Civil War battlefields and the attractions of Rock City and Ruby Falls at Lookout Mountain.

    Harrison Bay State Park

    • Harrison Bay State Park is a 1,200-acre enclosure along a 40-mile section of Chickamauga Lake. The campground has 21-tent only sites, as well as more than 100 sites for RVs. It is serviced by a central bath house and a playground. For lake activities, the park has a boat ramp, a marine with boat rentals, and fishing for catfish and bass. The park also boasts hiking trails and an outdoor swimming pool. For campers who either have a motorboat or are interested in renting one, the park offers access to other lakeside outdoors sites, such as Chester Frost Park. The location is about 10 miles to the west of Cleveland.

    Chilhowee Campground

    • Chilhowee Campground is a public camping area inside the Cherokee National Forest. While it is located only 15 miles east of Cleveland, the windy mountain roads make the trip from town to the campground a 25 to 30 minute drive. The campground offers both tent and RV sites, with some of the tent sites being more remote, hike-in sites. All of the campsites at the campground have individual picnic tables, barbecue grills and lantern posts, and many of the tent sites have electrical hookups as well. The campground is serviced by several water spigots and a pair of centrally-placed bathhouses. Chilhowee Campground is on McKay Lake, and has a swimming beach and fishing pier as well as access to Cherokee National Forest trail heads. The facility is open from from April to October.
