The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation operates Edgar Evins State Park, a 6,000-acre recreational area on Center Hill Lake. It is named for James Edgar Evins, a former Smithville mayor and state legislator. The park has 60 campsites for tents and trailers, with water and electric hook-ups, picnic tables, fire rings and grills. The campground has 11 miles of trails, a boat launch and interpretive programs. Visitors can see a variety of bird species, including bald eagles.

Ragland Bottom Campground is one of three recreational areas operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Center Hill Lake. Located eight miles from Smithville, the campground has 57 campsites, some of which have electric and water hook-ups. The campground also has showers, a dump station, interpretive trails, swimming and a boat ramp. Reservations are required, with minimum stay requirements on weekends. The campground is open from mid-April through October.

Hidden Harbor Marina is also located on Center Hill Lake. It has 16 campsites with electric and water hook-ups and 10 sites that do not have hook-ups. All campsites have picnic tables and are close to the lake or on the water. The campground has a bathhouse and dump station. The marina has a boat ramp for easy access to the lake which has more than 400 miles of shoreline.

Long Branch Campground is another Army Corps of Engineers recreation area that is located below Center Hill Dam and is less than 10 miles from Smithville. The campground has 60 sites with hook-ups. Other amenities include a dump station, boat ramp, showers, a laundry facility, picnic shelter and fish cleaning station.
