Knowing the weight of a camper is an important consideration so you can tow it with the correct vehicle. If you're buying a camper new, this information is easy to get from the dealer. If the vehicle is used, it may be a little harder to find. Coachmen campers, a respected name in the RV field, are subject to the same issues. But with just a little bit of research, or a little bit of work, you can quite easily determine the weight of a used Coachmen camper.
Check the Coachmen RV website. Coachmen has an easy-to-navigate website that lists full specs for all of their current campers, and many of their older models. If the used camper you'll be buying is a current model, or not too old, you can examine a full range of specifications, including gross weight, GVRW (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) and hitch weight.
Examine the manual for the camper. If the previous owner has kept the original documentation for the camper, those specs will be included in the owner's manual. Ask the previous owner, or examine any papers that he transferred to you when you purchased the Coachmen camper.
Weigh the camper. You'll need a truck scale for this. You can find certified scales at most large truck stops, or you can locate them easily with an online search (see Resources). You'll need to make two measurements, one of your vehicle, and one of your vehicle and the camper. Then subtract the weight of the vehicle to get the weight of the camper. If you already know the weight of your vehicle, you don't have to weigh it, obviously.
