Scarborough is a district within eastern Toronto and a popular destination for visitors to Ontario's capital. Only recently becoming part of the city of Toronto, Scarborough retains its own identity and unique spirit with a more suburban feel and the elements of nature for which Canada is famous. From the Toronto Zoo to performing arts centers and gorgeous parks, there is certainly not a lack of things to do in Scarborough. Any visitor to Toronto would benefit by making the short journey to the eastern city limits and visiting one of the many sights that this small district has on offer.

  1. Toronto Zoo

    • Located in eastern Scarborough, the Toronto Zoo is a large conservatory with over 5,000 species and 600 miles of walking trails. At 710 square miles, it claims to be one of the largest zoos in the world. Highlights of the zoo include a polar bear habitat, a troop of western lowland gorillas and several attractions specifically designed for kids. The zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas.

    Theatre Scarborough

    • Theatre Scarborough is a playhouse that produces a wide range of musicals and plays each year. While theater-goers will not witness Broadway level productions, the quaint theater and reasonable ticket prices lend to an intimate experience. Three different companies share the space and provide different styles depending on the night. From murder mysteries to Shakespeare classics, the variety is certain to satisfy almost any visitor.

    Scarborough Bluffs Park

    • Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, the Scarborough bluffs are the most naturally stunning cliffs in Toronto. At the highest point, the sheer cliffs peak at 65 meters above the water. Enjoy these natural pieces of art by taking a stroll through the surrounding park or hiring a boat to view them from another angle.

    • The Scarborough Museum documents the lives of the people of Scarborough from all points in history. Located within Thomson Memorial Park, the museum displays Scarborough's rural beginnings and rich immigrant history. The museum is remarkably reasonable with admission under $3 as of 2010.
