Things to Do in Fredericton Canada

Fredericton, with a population of more than 85,000, is the vibrant capital city of Canada's New Brunswick province. Summer or winter, there are many outdoor activities, and the Garrison Historic District offers plays, festivals, concerts and museums.
  1. Cultural Activities

    • The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, with its impressive collection of English works and several pieces by Salvador Dali, is just one of the city's many galleries and studios. The Playhouse is Fredericton's prime venue for live music and theater, and shows at the Fredericton Outdoor Summer Theater are free. During the summer, don't miss the Changing of the Guard ceremony in Officers Square--every day at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

    Outdoor Activities

    • Lighthouse on The Green along the St. John River offers outstanding views, free summer concerts on Friday and Saturdays, and you can have lunch there, too. The Botanic Gardens boast large rhododendron and azalea displays, which peak in June, and more than a mile of walking trails. Golf Digest has rated Kingswood one of the top 100 golf courses outside the United States.
Crabbe Mountain is Fredericton's ultimate ski destination with 15 groomed runs for every skill level and nice lodges for indoor "ski bunnies." Odell Park, right downtown, has more than six miles of groomed cross-country skiing trails.

    Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival

    • The weeklong Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, held every fall, features blues, jazz and world music by artists from across North America. If you need a place to stay during this festival, Fredericton offers an array of hostels, cottages, campgrounds, hotels and bed and breakfasts to fit every budget.
