Campgrounds or Cabins in Boone, North Carolina

In the high country of North Carolina, Boone is the heart of the area. Home to Appalachian State University, Boone is known throughout the Southeast for its ski slopes and is just down the road from Grandfather Mountain and the Lynn Cove Viaduct. High and cool in summer, snowy in winter, Boone offers something for everyone including hiking the backcountry, cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway and whitewater rafting on the Watauga River. Campgrounds and cabins here vary from the primitive to the modern from the intimate to the cosmopolitan.
  1. Hawks Haven

    • This four-bedroom, 4 1/2-bath log cabin covers 4,000 square feet. Situated high at Seven Devils, the two open decks provide a view of Grandfather Mountain. The open-beam construction hosts a stone fireplace, formal dining area, full kitchen and a pool table. This cabin is available year-round.

    Julian Price Park

    • Tucked away along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Julian Price Park, located at mile marker 297, is the largest campground along the parkway. One hundred ninety-seven campsites are hidden among huge rhododendron, giving nearly every site more privacy that is usually found in state park campgrounds. Julian Price offers 37 tent-only sites and 74 RV sites. No electricity, water or sewer hookups are available at any campsites. There are restrooms with flush toilets and sinks, but no showers.

      Price Lake is just a few steps away and offers canoe and row boat rentals. Trout fishing is allowed. Fishing at Price Lake does require a North Carolina fishing license. Waterside campsites are available. The Tanawha hiking Trail is nearby as well as other hiking trails with difficulty ratings from easy to strenuous. The small town of Blowing Rock is just a few miles away as well as Moses Cone Manor and Grandfather Mountain. The campground is generally closed from October 30 to May 13, but dates may vary depending on weather.

    Cozy River Cabin

    • Nestled deep in historic Valle Crucis, this intimate cabin is just a few miles from Boone. Situated on the Watauga River, this two-bedroom cabin is close to historic Mast's Store and the Mast Store Annex. It has a wide front porch with traditional rocking chairs, a king, queen and twin bed, a full kitchen, cable television, washer and dryer and a stone wood fireplace. It is available year-round and is pet-friendly.
