Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Custer State Park covers 71,000 acres with plenty of outdoor activities. Recreation includes hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, fishing and bison tours. Four of the lodges open in May and close in October. The recently opened Creekside Lodge at the State Game Lodge is open year-round.
The lodge overlooks Sylvan Lake and contains lodge rooms, rustic cabins, the Lakota dining room, general store and a lounge and meeting facility.
This lodge has hosted Presidents Coolidge and Eisenhower, giving it the nickname the Summer White House. Made of stone and wood, State Game features rooms and motel units, pine-shaped cabins, meeting and banquet facilities and a fancy dining room/lounge. Creekside Lodge features 30 oversized lodge rooms.
This lakeside resort has 25 cottages, a general store, and a dining room. Water activities and hiking are available right outside the door.
Blue Bell features a Western guest ranch theme with log cabins surrounding the lodge. It also has a lounge, gas station, dining room, general store and gift shop and a meeting room.
