How to Clean Mold in My Tent Trailer

There's almost nothing worse: You get the time off of work, set your sights on a destination, and pull out the tent trailer for another happy vacation -- only to find mold in the place you'll be laying down your head. Luckily, there is a reliable method for removing mold, even from soft surfaces like camper canvas. And the good part is, the option that works is also the least expensive.

Things You'll Need

  • Bleach
  • Bucket
  • Warm water
  • Scrub brush
  • Spray bottle

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the tent trailer to its full upright position.

    • 2

Inspect tent trailer thoroughly to find all moldy spots.

    • 3

Use the bucket to mix a solution of one part bleach to eight parts warm water. Of all the products out there meant to remove mold, tent makers (see Reference 1) say this inexpensive solution works best to remove mold.

    • 4

Attack moldy spots with a scrub brush and bleach solution. Scrub until all discoloration is gone. This may take more than one attempt.

    • 5

Fill spray bottle with bleach solution.

    • 6

Spray all portions of tent camper canvas with light bleach solution, to discourage new growth of mold.

    • 7

Rinse off sprayed areas with water, to cut down on the bleach smell.

    • 8

Air tent camper out for two to three days to remove smell of bleach.
