How to Flush the Fresh Water Tank on Motor Homes

If you camp in an RV or camper with a bathroom, you'll inevitably have to make a stop at the dump station. When arriving at the dump station, it is important to have all of your equipment tested and ready to go beforehand, so that you can dump efficiently and not hold up the line. Before driving to the dump station, always top off your gray and black water tanks with water for the strongest flushing force.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull off the tank outlet cap on the outside of your camper.

    • 2

Attach the sewage hose to the outlet.

    • 3

Place the other end of the sewage hose inside the dump station opening, and set it in at least four to six inches to ensure it doesn't pop out. For added weight, place the dump station lid or a brick against the hose for wedging.

    • 4

Open your black water tank valve. You'll hear the tank empty fast, then slow and stop. Close your black water tank once it has stopped draining.

    • 5

Open your gray water tank valve. Empty and close it in the same way.

    • 6

Fill your tanks two-thirds full with water from your clean water tank and flush the two tanks once more to completely clean them. Once again, go from black water to gray water to ensure the hose is as clean as possible for removal.

    • 7

Remove the hose from your hose outlet and cap the outlet.

    • 8

Lift the hose as you go to get out any remaining water and then remove the end from the dump station.

    • 9

Store your waste hose and close up the dump station.
