How to Stay at a Tennessee State Park

Tennessee State Parks offer a variety of options for those visitors who are planning to spend a night or a week in a state park. Campsites, cabins, villas and park inns are available at many of the parks and offer reasonable rates and convenient locations. A number of parks are even open year-round, giving guests ample opportunity to enjoy the mountains, lakes, trails, gorges, forests, waterfalls and streams that make up Tennessee’s scenic state parks.

Go camping. Whether you have a tent or an RV, there are plenty of opportunities for camping at Tennessee State Parks. Campgrounds are available at 36 state parks and, depending on the park, offer primitive sites and/or sites with electricity and water. Sites come equipped with grills and picnic tables. Most parks offer dump stations and modern restrooms.

Spend a week at a cabin. Nineteen state parks offer rustic cabins built by the "Civilian Conservation Corps." Type A cabins have one or two bedrooms, bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, living areas and grills. Type AA and AAA are the deluxe cabins and offer one to three bedrooms, living areas, fully equipped kitchens and grills. Some of the cabins also offer air-conditioning, televisions and telephones.

Upgrade to a villa. Villas offer slightly more upscale accommodations. The villas, available only at "Paris Landing," "Natchez Trace" and "Fall Creek Falls State Parks," offer two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, living areas, fireplaces, telephones, cable televisions, air-conditioning and heat.

Treat yourself to a stay at a park inn. Park inns offer single and double rooms and even offer suites in some locations. Rooms are furnished with beds, tables and chairs, bathrooms with tub/shower, coffeemaker and cable television. Microwave ovens are included in some inn rooms. Inns are the perfect place to hold large family reunions or conferences and many offer meeting rooms. All inns have swimming pools. A complete list of inns is located on the Tennessee State Parks website listed below.

Make your reservation. Reservations for cabins, villas and inns can be made by calling (866) 836-6757. Cabins and villas must be reserved for a minimum of one week during the summer. Only three parks, "Fall Creek Falls," "Meeman Shelby" and "Rock Island," accept camping reservations. Reservations may be made by calling those parks directly. All other parks offer campsites on a first come-first served basis.
