How to Transfer AAdvantage Miles to Amtrak

Most major airlines, hotels, and train services offer reward programs that can be used for free or discounted travel, free hotel stays or gifts. Unfortunately, you cannot always transfer points or miles from one program to another. However, if you wish to redeem your American Airlines AAdvantage miles for Amtrak Guest Rewards points, you can, but you will need to also sign up with the Hilton Honors program. This will allow you to use the Hilton program as an intermediary between the two.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a free account with Hilton Honors by calling 800-HHONORS or going to their website.

    • 2

Calculate how many AAdvantage miles you want to convert to Hilton Honor points. The transfer rate is one AAdvantage miles point for every two Hilton Honor points. So if you transfer 2,500 miles points from AAdvantage, you will receive 5,000 Hilton Honor points.

    • 3

Contact the customer service department of the AAdvantage at 800-882-8880. Inform the agent that you want to transfer your AAdvantage miles to Hilton Honor points. You will need to give your Hilton Honors membership number and password to the agent.

    • 4

Wait for your points to be processed. It usually takes three or four days for your AAdvantage miles to be transferred to Hilton Honor points.

    • 5

Transfer your Hilton Honors points to Amtrak points. Hilton Honors points transfer at a ratio of 10,000 to 1,500. So you can transfer 5,000 points from AAdvantage to Hilton Honors, which become 10,000, then transfer the Hilton Honors Points to Amtrak, which become 1,500.

Call Hilton Honors customer service at 800-548-8690 and request the transfer to your Amtrak account. Have your account number ready. Wait for your points to appear in your Amtrak account.
