Ways to Redeem My US Airways Dividend Miles

Now that you have earned miles by flying with US Airways, used the Dividend Miles MasterCard or made qualifying purchases from a US Airways partner, what do you do with the miles?

According to US Airways, you can book a travel award, upgrade an existing reservation, receive subscriptions to magazines and newspapers or donate your miles to a non-profit organization.
  1. Check your Balance

    • Once you decide you are ready to redeem miles, check your mileage balance at USAirways.com.

From the home page, click on the Dividend Miles tab at the top of the page to view your account. Your log in is either your Dividend Miles account number and password or a username and password depending upon how you set up your account.

From the Dividend Miles page you can also manage your account and book award travel or redeem miles for subscriptions.

    Travel Rewards

    • As of March 2011, awards for a round-trip ticket for travel within the Continental United States, Alaska and Canada begin at 25,000 miles for a coach seat during the low travel season. There are several blackout dates each year and a limited number of awards seats on each flight so the earlier you know where you want to go will give you a better chance of claiming an award seat.

If you want to fly during a medium or high travel season the number of miles needed increases. A continental flight during the medium travel season is 40,000 and 60,000 miles are needed for travel during the high season.

    Save Money, Book Online

    • The least expensive way to book a travel award is by doing it online and using an electronic ticket. For online award reservations in the Continental United States, Alaska and Canada you will be charged a $25 processing fee. If you book your travel award over the phone (800-428-4322) there is a $50 fee.

Other fees apply for paper tickets, travel booked within 14 days of travel and for traveling on a standby status.

    Donate Miles or Buy Subscriptions

    • If you are not planning on using your miles for a travel award, you can donate your miles to Miles of Hope, American Red Cross, Make-A-Wish Foundation or Mercy Medical Airlift.

Miles can also be redeemed for newspaper subscription including "The Washington Post" and "The Wall Street Journal" or a selection of magazines. The number of miles needed varies by title.
