Determine where you want to go, and how many miles you or a friend will need to get there. For instance, if a flight from Los Angeles to Omaha costs 25,000 US Airways Dividend Miles, and your mother has only 20,000 miles in her account, you can "gift" her 5,000 miles to reach the necessary number of Dividend points to send her on her way.
Once you have determined the number of points necessary to transfer, check to see if you're a Dividend Miles Preferred member. If so, the recipient of your miles will receive a 25 percent bonus within 72 hours of the mileage transfer.
It's important to note that there is a fee to transfer miles. Miles can be transferred in 1,000-miile increments, with a fee of $10 for each chunk of 1,000 miles. US Airways allows a maximum transfer of 50,000 miles.
The first name, last name, contact information and US Airways Dividend Miles numbers are necessary for the person transferring the miles and for the person receiving the miles.
Along with the per-1,000 mile charge, US Airways also charges a $0.01 per mile fee, plus a processing fee and a tax recovery charge of 7.5% to transfer Dividend Miles from one account holder to another.
