Ways to Redeem Dividend Miles

You've been a loyal member of the US Airways' Dividend Miles program for years; you've booked your flights with the airline, you've stayed in their partner hotels, shopped online, and perhaps even rented a car or dined at certain restaurants --- in order to earn more miles. If you've accumulated numerous miles, consider redeeming them now.
  1. Travel

    • Probably the first thing that comes to mind for mile redemption are free flights. After all, the thoughts of a free trip to a spectacular destination is a great motivator when you're accruing miles. US Airways even makes travel suggestions to destinations based on a variety of themes, including outdoor adventures and arts and cultural events. Of course, you can choose your own destination, but be sure your plans don't conflict with any blackout dates that exist. To book travel, log in to your account and enter your travel details to ensure the trip is eligible for miles redemption. Miles can also be used to upgrade your seat to first class.

    Newspapers and Magazines

    • Redeem your miles for a subscription to a variety of newspapers, such as The Wall Street Journal or The Charlotte Observer. The newspaper offers you receive depend on the area of the country you live in. If you're in Oregon, for example, The Charlotte Observer, a daily newspaper in Charlotte, North Carolina, will most likely not be an option for redeeming miles. Magazines might include Bloomberg Businessweek, People, Health and Money. For 1900 miles you get 26 issues of People, while 10 issues of Health costs 500 miles.

    Donations

    • If you don't think you will need or use your miles, consider donating them to charity. US Airways has several programs that benefit from your generosity. With "Miles of Hope" you can assist several national nonprofit organizations, such as American Red Cross, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mercy Medical Aircraft, and Fisher House Foundation. The American Red Cross uses donated miles to provide humanitarian aid for victims of disasters. The Make-A-Wish Foundation helps make the dreams of children with terminal illnesses come true, while the Mercy Medical Aircraft provides free flights for those with life-threatening illnesses who must travel for medical treatment. The Fisher House Foundation focuses on members of the military, providing flights for those needing transport home from military hospitals. The organization also flies family members to the bedside of injured soldiers as they recuperate and recover.
