How to Download From Amazon Abroad

Amazon's Whispernet technology delivers books wirelessly to your Kindle using the AT&T wireless network. Because the AT&T network does not reach outside the United States, Whispernet cannot deliver books to your Kindle while you are traveling abroad. Amazon recommends "sideloading" books to your Kindle via a computer and USB cord should you make purchases while traveling outside the country. Sideloading is fairly easy, but it will require you to have access to a computer that is registered with your Kindle account.

Make your purchase on Amazon.com. After purchase, have the book delivered via Whispernet. The delivery will fail, but don't panic, we already knew that it would.

Go to "Manage Your Kindle" in the upper right of the screen. Scroll down to "Your Orders" and you will see the purchase you just made. In the "Deliver To" drop down box to the right, choose the computer you are using. The book will be downloaded to that machine automatically.

Plug your Kindle into the computer using a USB cable. You can now copy your purchase to your Kindle.
