How to Send Post Cards From Greece to the USA

While many people rely on email to keep in touch while traveling in Greece, nothing beats a traditional postcard to let friends and family know you are thinking of them. And because Greece boasts so many stunning sites, a professional postcard better captures the country’s beauty and history than an email or a basic snapshot. Sending a postcard from Greece to the United States is easy, regardless of your Greek language skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase postcards from tourist shops or outdoor kiosks. Greece attracts a large number of tourists, so finding souvenir shops is easy, especially near famous sites like the Acropolis, the Turkish Plaka district in Athens or on any of the well-known islands.

    • 2

Buy postcard stamps from a post office. Greece's post offices are marked with yellow—the official color of the Hellenic Post. Most post offices close by 1:30 p.m.; a few remain open until 3 p.m.

    • 3

If you can't make it to a post office, purchase stamps from an outdoor kiosk. Stamps are often available for purchase at the same outdoor kiosks that sell postcards. Ask for stamps or, “grammatoshmo” in Greek, and make sure to communicate that you need stamps to send mail to the United States (“Enomenes Polities tis Amerikis” in Greek).

    • 4

Fill out your postcards and affix postage. Write “airmail” or “αεροπορικ” on the postcard near the address to emphasize an international destination.

    • 5

Drop your postcards in the mail at a post office or public mailbox. Greek mailboxes are small and yellow, and are easy to locate in major cities and tourist-heavy areas. Some mailboxes are designated for only domestic or international mail, so examine any print on the mailbox before inserting your postcards.
