One-way airline tickets are sometimes more expensive than a round-trip airline ticket. Supposedly, this is done by the airlines for security reasons. Sometimes, average travelers need to fly one way and do not wish to shell out the additional money for the one-way ticket. Passengers can use any round-trip airline ticket to go one way, regardless of where it is purchased. Whether a paper ticket or an e-ticket, passengers will not have a problem using just one portion of the ticket. There is a very easy way to use a round-trip ticket to go just one way.
Arrive at the airport and board your flight. Fly to your destination, collect your luggage and leave the airport.
Call the airline a few days before the return trip and let the ticketing agent know that you are not able to make the return flight. Ask if you are able to get a credit for a future flight, or even a refund. Some airlines will give you a credit for a future flight.
Write down the cancellation number given by the ticketing agent. She may also give you a confirmation code for a future flight credit.
Do not go to the airport for the scheduled return flight.
