Exciting Things to Do in London

The city of London is famous for its world class museums and beautiful architecture, but there's much more to this city than its history. Whether your idea of a thrill is scoring a lovely antique at a great price or watching London go by from a height of 442 feet, there's something exciting for everyone in this cosmopolitan capital city.
  1. The Circus Space

    • If you're ever dreamed of joining the circus, here is your chance. The Circus Space, is the only circus training facility in the United Kingdom and one of the finest in Europe. It is dedicated to teaching and promoting the circus arts to both aspiring professionals and ordinary folks who have always wanted to see what it was like to walk a tight rope or swing from a trapeze.

Located in what was once an abandoned power station in north London's Hoxton neighborhood, The Circus Space offers recreational classes in various circus acts such as the flying trapeze, stilt walking, juggling and tightrope walking. If you're not sure what you want to try, half- and full-day workshops allow you to try your hand at a variety of circus skills. Check out its website for more information.

    Bermondsey Market

    • If you get an adrenaline rush whenever you score a great bargain, you must visit Bermondsey Market (also known as the New Caledonian Market), considered by many as one of the best flea markets in the world. Its specialty is antique and historic items such as Victorian furniture and Edwardian jewelry.

It takes place every Friday on the corner of Long Lane and Bermondsey Street (nearest tube: London Bridge). Get there ready to bargain, and get there early---the market opens 5 a.m. and though it officially closes at noon, many of the best bargains are snatched up within the first few hours of opening.

    Friday Night Skate

    • If you have a need for speed and are comfortable with wheels on your feet, than check out Friday Night Skate, a weekly rollerblade event in which hundreds of skaters hit the streets of London accompanied by music. This fast paced, high energy event that follows a different 10 to 15 mile route each time and is not recommended for slow or novice rollerbladers. But, if you can keep up, it's one of the most exciting ways to explore London. Check the Friday Night Skate website for meeting times and weekly routes.

    London Eye

    • If you're looking for something fun for the whole family, consider a ride on the London Eye. Located on the South Bank of the Thames River, the London Eye is the biggest Ferris Wheel in Europe and offers incredible views of the London skyline. Before you take the ride, check out the London Eye's 4D Experience, an innovative 3D film. Its special effects such as mist and wind add a whole new dimension to the 3D experience.
