Whale Watching Tours in Maui, Hawaii

Every winter, humpback whales migrate from Alaska to the warm waters around Hawaii to mate and give birth. The shallow waters between the four islands of Maui are the number one destination for these migrating whales. Accordingly, Maui visitors can take one of the whale-watching tours available between the months of December and April.
  1. Frogman-Maui Whale Watch Tours

    • Frogman-Maui guarantees a humpback spotting on its whale watching tours or visitors can take the tour again free of charge. The tours are two hours long and departs daily at 4 p.m., weather permitting. Sodas and juice are served, and cocktails and cameras are available for purchase.

      As of August 2010, Frogman-Maui offers tours from December 19th through April 15th. Tickets are priced from approximately $16 to $30 each plus taxes and fees.

    Kai Kanani Tour

    • Kai Kanani provides daily whale-watching tours from December to April. The tour includes a guaranteed whale sighting, or visitors can repeat the tour free of charge; a naturalist on board to provide scientific information about the whales and personal experiences; and views of South Maui, Molokini and Kahoolawe. Beverages including Mai Tais and local beer are served during the tour and ticket prices include two drink tickets.

      Tour participants check in at the Beach Activity Hut at Makena Beach & Golf Resort in Wailea, Maui. The tour departs at 1:15 p.m. and lasts two hours. As of August 2010, tickets for the Kai Kanani tour are priced from $27 to $40 per person plus taxes and fees.

    Aloha Blue Charters Tour

    • Aloha Blue Charters provides whale-watching tours from December 15th to April 15th. According to the company, its tours are 100 percent environmentally safe and its boats use jet drives rather than propellers to avoid harming the whales. The tour includes a guaranteed whale sighting, or visitors can repeat the tour free; hydrophone technology so visitors can hear the whales; a marine naturalist on board to answer questions; and refreshments and snacks served on board.

      As of August 2010, tickets for this tour are priced from approximately $31 to $42 per person. This includes taxes and fees, and the tour does not charge for kids under the age of 12. A maximum of 35 passengers is allowed per tour to avoid overcrowding.
