Select a camera that allows its setting to be changed manually. Any digital camera with an adjustable shutter speed, exposure and ISO is acceptable. Also choose a portable tripod, which can be folded away. This will then fit easily into a carry bag although it will add a noticeable amount of weight while hiking to the waterfall.
Set up the tripod in front of the Havasu waterfall and attach the camera. The fixed position will prevent a blurry photograph.
Set the camera to a low shutter speed. This will ensure that the photograph captures the movement of the waterfall. If the waterfall is reflecting a lot of light and creating a glare, lower the exposure. This can also be done using an exposure meter, which some cameras have built in. Also set the camera to a low ISO of between 25 and 100, which will allow for the long exposures.
Take the photograph. It is always best to take several photographs. Each one can be set up with different camera settings and the photographer can experiment with a number of different angles to ensure that there are a variety of images to choose from.
