Bradenton, Florida Activities

Bradenton, Florida, is located south of Tampa Bay. Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto is believe to have passed through the town on his journey to El Dorado. The city was named after Dr. Joseph Braden, a sugar mill owner. In and near Bradenton, people can visit museums, planetariums and aquariums, go to parks and beaches, go golfing, go to a baseball game and go deep-sea fishing.
  1. South Florida Museum

    • The South Florida Museum features exhibits on medical equipment, local maritime history and early mammal and marine life in the Bradenton area. The science museum's facility also houses the Parker Manatee Aquarium, which runs a manatee rehabilitation program, and the Bishop Planetarium.

    De Soto National Memorial

    • The De Soto National Memorial offers nature trails where one can see mangrove forests; a living history camp with talks on Hernando de Soto's expedition, given by forest rangers in period clothing; exhibits on weapons used during the colonial period; and small beaches such as Cove Beach that are good for canoeing, boating, fishing and swimming.

    Manatee Players and Riverfront Theatre

    • The Manatee Players are a community-based theatrical group that is featured at the Riverfront Theatre. The group has received a number of awards for its productions, which have included shows such as "Boy Bat: The Musical" and "Sweeney Todd."

    Pinewood/Ironwood Golf Club and Legacy Golf Club

    • Pinewood/Ironwood Golf Club is considered challenging because 16 of its 18 fairways are surrounded by water. The course also has 37 bunkers. Legacy Golf Club is an 18-hole, Arnold Palmer signature-designed golf course.

    McKechnie Field

    • During the month of March, the Pittsburgh Pirates play at McKechnie Field, the spring training home of the Major League Baseball team since 1969.

    Cortez Kat Charters

    • Cortez Kat Charters offers deep-sea fishing charters to groups of up to 16 people with destinations including Anna Maria Island and Bradenton Beach. These expeditions sometimes include dolphin and manatee sightings.
