How to Find Delaware's Best Tourist Spots

Delaware is a small Mid-Atlantic state cozily nestled between Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Though not traditionally the first state that comes to mind when one thinks of a vacation getaway, Delaware is a serene, relaxing and beautiful place to visit, with plenty of museums, parks, historic sites and beach resorts.

      Spend the afternoon at Winterthur Museum in Wilmington. This is where Henry Du Pont's (soldier and politician from Delaware) collection of arts and crafts is housed. The museum is divided up into sections like wood, textiles, paintings, ceramics and metalworks. There is also a wonderful botanic garden located here (see Resources below).

      Visit Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington. This is a beautiful outdoor museum which was the location of the Du Pont gunpowder mills. Eleutherian Mills, the first Du Pont home built back in 1803, is located on the museum grounds as well. Also be sure to check out the well-maintained historic garden (see Resources below).

      Explore the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village. Located in central Delaware, this place is an educational and fascinating place to experience a slice of rural existence and agricultural heritage. Many relics from the past are on display, including tractors and horse-drawn equipment. Check out the general store, post office and county church and feel like you are experiencing a time warp (see Resources below).

      Check out the Brick Hotel in Odessa. Located in Northern Delaware, this hotel was built back in 1822. The purpose of the Brick Hotel was to cater to ship captains, merchants and visitors. Now, this museum serves as a gallery with artifacts and antique furniture. Check out the array of 1840s Rococo revival style furniture on display here (see Resources below).

      Relax at Dewey Beach. Located on a small piece of land between Rehoboth Bay and the Atlantic, Dewey Beach is a party area, family vacation spot and relaxation site, all rolled into one. With gorgeous beaches and many restaurants and nightclubs, there is never a shortage of things to do on Dewey Beach (see Resources below).
