Summer Programs for Teens to Study Abroad

Studying abroad gives teenagers the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, learn a different language and have an experience that will last them a lifetime. There a variety of organizations that offer summer programs in countries around the world. Some focus on learning a new language, while others provide an experience focused more on learning the local culture.
  1. AmeriSpan Study Abroad

    • AmeriSpan offers programs for teens 14 to 18 in 28 cities around the world. Many of the programs include lodging, planned activities and excursions, and language components, including Spanish, Italian, French, Hebrew, Arabic, German, Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese. AmeriSpan offers three different types of programs; the summer camps have the most supervision.

    Teenagers Abroad

    • Teenagers Abroad sends children and teenagers between 10 and 18 years of age to countries in Europe, Central America and North America. Programs for full language immersion include language sessions, sports, as well as leisure and cultural activities. These programs are open to both individuals and groups. Teens can be sent on tours, home stays or to foreign schools. You may choose a program based on either location or language.

    Ecole Swisse de Langues

    • Ecole Swisse de Langues (ESL) offers a wide variety of language camps around the world for teens ages 13 to 17. ESL offers camps in the Swiss Alps, next to Lake Geneva, on the Côte d'Azur and in the German Westerwald. They offer several French language camps located in Switzerland and France, an Italian language camp located in Switzerland, German camps located in Switzerland and Germany, as well as English language camps located in Switzerland.

    Global Teen

    • Global Teen offers international travel experiences to high school students. Programs currently go to several countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada and Ecuador. In addition to summer language programs, there are also opportunities to study abroad for a semester or quarter. Classes aim to not only teach students a new language, but also to help them understand a new culture.

    The Learning Traveler

    • The Learning Traveler offers a wide range of programs for different age groups around the country. Students as young as 10 may participate in some of the programs, including the Paris Intensive for teens 10-14. However, programs are available for students up to the age of 20. There are French programs in Paris,Cannes, Montpellier, Leysin,Quebec City and Montreal. Spanish programs are offered in Malaga, Benalmadena, Barcelona, Madrid, Tarragona and Costa Rica. There are German programs in Berlin, and Italian programs in Florence and Rome. A Japanese program is available in Kanazawa and Russian in St. Petersburg.
