How to Change Celsius to Fahrenheit & Change It to a Decimal

Whether you're planning a trip to or are currently vacationing in another country, knowing what the temperature will be is essential in deciding what to wear or what to pack. Unfortunately, for those accustomed to Fahrenheit, Celsius readings don't make much sense. The good thing is, there's a way to convert Celsius into Fahrenheit, even down to the decimal, so you'll know exactly what the weather is going to feel like.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the equation. In this example "F" stands for degrees Fahrenheit, and "C" stands for degrees Celsius. The equation for converting between the two measurement systems is F = (9/5)C + 32.

    • 2

      Translate the (9/5) value into a decimal. If you divide 9 by 5, you get 1.8. Substitute 1.8 for (9/5) to get F = 1.8C + 32.

    • 3

Enter the value for Celsius into the equation. For example, if it is 22 degrees Celsius outside and you want to know how warm that is in Fahrenheit, set up the equation this way: F = 1.8(22) + 32.

    • 4

Solve the equation. First, multiply 1.8 by the Celsius value, which in this case is 22. The answer comes out to be 39.6. After that, add 32 to get the overall total of the conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit. In this case, 22 degrees Celsius is equal to 71.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
