How to Get a Forwarding Address From the Post Office

Being away from your permanent address for an extended period of time should not prevent you from getting your mail. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) offers the option of having mail sent to a temporary forwarding address via the following steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the USPS website and click on the menu tab titled "All Products & Services."

    • 2

Click on the "Change Your Address" link on the next page, found under the "What Would You Like To Do?" column.

    • 3

Read the Privacy Act statement and then, if you agree to the terms and conditions specified, click on the orange arrow that says "I understand and acknowledge the statements above. Click here to begin."

    • 4

Read, evaluate and choose each of the options at each step based on how they best fit your needs. When complete, fill in the necessary forms with your personal information, such as name, old address, new address and e-mail address.

    • 5

Enter your credit card information at the next page and verify the options chosen, as well as the personal information you provided. If everything is in order, submit your request and you will be billed $1.00.
