How to Use Airplane Air Pressure Regulating Ear Plugs

When traveling by air, take-offs and landings can be uncomfortable for some, and downright painful for others. The cause is the difference of pressure in the cabin and the pressure in the ear canal. Once the pressure equalizes, the pain or discomfort disappears. Flight ear plugs, or air pressure regulating ear plugs, are designed to slowly bring the ears to equilibrium with the cabin pressure. The best known product is Earplanes, although some stores (such as Walgreens) offer a similar, store-brand product. Manufacturers of flight ear plugs recommend wearing their ear plugs before take-off, until the plane reaches its cruising altitude; and from the time the plane begins its initial descent (about one hour before landing) until the plane lands and comes to a complete halt.
