Lay your map flat on a hard surface, like a table or floor. A stable, flat surface is necessary to ensure your measurements are consistent and prevent the map from being ripped.
Copy the map scale onto another piece of paper. Using a ruler, extend the scale as needed to meet your needs. For example, if the scale shows that 25 miles is 1 inch, and you want to make a 100-mile radius, you would need a 4-inch line.
Adjust your compass to match your scale line. You can do this by setting the point at one end of your scale line and then stretching the pencil end so it makes a mark just at the end of the scale line.
Draw a circle on your map with your compass. Be sure the point of the compass stays on your desired "home" location. If you don't have a compass, you can use your ruler or scale line to mark off several points that are the desired distance from your center point. Connect the dots to make a circle.
Identify mapping website or software that allows radius mapping. Unfortunately, most popular mapping sites don't have a radius map feature. I use http://www.freemaptools.com/radius-around-point.htm.
Center the map approximately around your "home" location. Don't zoom in too far.
Select a radius distance and click "draw radius."
