Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of everything you need to pack. For example, you may include clothing, toiletries, a towel, books, important documents, toilet paper and other essential items.

    • 2

Use packing cells to help organize your smaller packed items, such as toiletries.

    • 3

Make the compression straps on your rucksack loose before you begin to pack your belongings.

    • 4

Fold or roll your clothes before you pack them. Whether you choose to fold or roll your clothing is not important; what is important is that your clothes are organized in a way that will keep them from becoming wrinkled or taking up more space than necessary.

    • 5

Place soft items that you don't plan on using regularly at the bottom of your rucksack. To avoid the inconvenience of having to unpack your entire rucksack to access certain items, put clothing such as extra sweaters near the bottom of your bag. Avoid putting heavy or hard objects such as books or shampoo bottles at the bottom of your rucksack as these can become damaged easily when your bag is resting or dropped on a hard surface.

    • 6

Put heavy items in the middle of your rucksack to make your bag well-balanced. Pad heavy items with clothing to stop them from hurting your back.

    • 7

Pack items that you will use often near the top of your bag. If these essential items are fragile or contain liquid, put them in plastic bags and pad them with clothing to stop them becoming damaged or opening.

    • 8

Use your rucksack's side and top pockets to store non-valuable items such as toilet paper or water bottles. Use pockets to store items that you will use regularly, but ensure they are items that don't risk being stolen.

    • 9

Once your rucksack is packed, tighten the compression straps.
