How to Pack Your Clothing Like a Professional

Packing your clothes like a professional enables you to look your best once you reach your destination. No matter how carefully you try to fold your clothes in your luggage, they often wind up with wrinkles and creases in them. This affects the way you feel and look, while traveling on vacation or business. It is expensive to get clothes pressed when traveling, but if you pack the clothes correctly, this is an expense you won't have to worry about.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Pack clothes in solid colors that will coordinate with each other. This enables you to pair a skirt with a blazer -- and then wear it with a sweater -- or another piece of clothing, later in the week. Take shoes in colors that coordinate well with the solids. This enables you to pack just one or two pairs of shoes, instead of many, that crowd the clothing inside your luggage.

    • 2

Pick clothing items to pack in microfiber fabrics, such as Tencel, spandex, nylon and Lycra. These are wrinkle resistant and travel well. Not only do they arrive unwrinkled out of your luggage, they are also useful in preventing wrinkles while sitting through long meetings or tours on your trip.

    • 3

Roll the clothing items in tissue paper. This results in much less wrinkling and creases than attempting to fold the clothes.

    • 4

Place the heaviest items so that they are on the bottom of your suitcase. This prevents lighter, more fragile clothing from being crushed.

    • 5

Store toiletries, lotions and other liquids inside zipper-style plastic bags and then place the bags inside another, larger zipper style plastic bag. This ensures that the air pressure and jostling of the luggage doesn't create a mess that stains or ruins your clothes.

    • 6

Stuff your socks and underwear inside shoes and purses. This enables them to retain their shape and makes efficient use of the space inside them.

    • 7

Place your camera, electric shaver, alarm clock and other breakable items in between items of clothing where there are gaps. This utilizes all the available space and provides extra cushioning for the items.

    • 8

Unpack as soon as you reach your destination. Hang up your clothing. If you do experience any wrinkles or creases, hang the item in the bathroom while you take a steamy shower. The extra humidity reduces the wrinkles.

    • 9

Pack the jewelry for each outfit in a zipper-style bag. Use a small safety pin to attach the bag to each individual outfit.
