Load your pallet with the heaviest items on the bottom. Keep the pallet shipment strictly within the dimensions of the pallet with nothing hanging over the side, if possible.
Stack items in as much of a square formation as possible. Pack items as tightly together as possible so that every layer of the pallet forms its own square with no wiggle room between objects. The more the items can move on the pallet, the more likely they'll fall off or break during shipping vibration.
Add the smallest, lightest items to the top of the pallet. Only stack the pallet about 5 to 6 feet high at the maximum. Adding too much to a pallet can damage goods because of excess weight and excessive size. This also creates safety issues when trying to load and unload pallets onto trucks.
Place cardboard sheets against each side of the pallet and against the bottom of the shipment. This helps hold the goods in place and adds some extra padding.
Wrap shipping bands around the shipment to hold the goods together tightly and keep the cardboard in place.
Wrap plastic shrink wrap around the entire shipment, from top to bottom. Start on one side and wrap around the pallet, gradually moving higher with each rotation until the entire shipment is covered. This also helps stabilize the shipment and also is excellent protection against moisture.
