How to Pack Fragile Items with Sponges

Packing can be a stressful task if you have multiple fragile items to transport. However, your worry can be minimized by using a few common household items while packing. Sponges, rubber bands and newspaper can save your items from damage while they're being moved.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy rubber bands big enough to fit around the item and gather up some old newspapers.

    • 2

Buy regular, yellow sponges. Try to pick sponges as big as the item you need to pack. If you can't find sponges the same size, invest in sponges of varying sizes.

    • 3

Hold the fragile item. Secure any detachable parts or remove them so you can pack them separately.

    • 4

Dampen the sponge. Wring the sponge out if it drips. A small amount of water helps the sponge conform to the shape of your fragile item so that every curve is protected during transport.

    • 5

Place the damp sponge over the fragile item and secure it with a rubber band.

    • 6

Cover all sides of the fragile item with damp sponges and secure them, too.

    • 7

Allow the sponges to air dry.

    • 8

Wrap the item with a layer of newspaper. Add one or two more layers for extra protection.

    • 9

Secure the newspaper around the item with more rubber bands.

    • 10

Slide dry sponges under the rubber bands so that they fit over the newspaper. This extra spongy layer acts as a shock absorber for your fragile item.

    • 11

      Transport your items.
