How to Track an Electronic Passport

A small computer chip is embedded into an Electronic Passport, also known as the biometric or ePassport, that includes the same information that appears on the data page of the actual paper passport. The chip includes an identification number, digital signature and a digital image of the photograph. The United States now only issues ePassports. The purpose of the ePassport is to help with security, verification of identity and more efficient movement through the immigration and customs process when entering the United States. Tracking an ePassport application is similar to that of its predecessor, which did not have the computer chip.
