Visit the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) website at sre.gob.mx. Click on the "Pasaporte" link under the "Trámites y Servicios" menu to the left of the page.
Click the "Primera vez" link once you've been led to the page titled "Aviso Importante." This will direct you to information on specific types of Mexican passports. Choose "Mayores de 18 años" to apply for an adult passport, and "Menores de edad" for a passport for a minor under 18 years of age.
Follow the link titled "Ver Formatos de Solicitud" for a directory of passport application forms. Download and print the Mexican Ordinary Passport Application (OP5) and complete the necessary information by hand.
Schedule an appointment at the Mexican consulate in your jurisdiction; this is mandatory to verify the authenticity of your documents. Bring your completed passport application and materials (see tips) to the office for processing. Only electronic payments are accepted, so bring a debit card or credit card to pay the passport fees. Expect to have your passport mailed within two to three weeks.
