Locate the Guatemalan Embassy or Consulate nearest you as all passport renewal requests must be processed in person (visit http://guatemala.usembassy.gov/ to find an embassy). Due to the high volume of applicants, it is highly recommended that you schedule an appointment before proceeding with the application process.
Complete the passport renewal form you receive from the Consulate and submit your old Guatemalan passport along with a color passport photograph 4.5-by-3.5 cm in size. It must be a frontal portrait of the face taken against a white background, without any glasses or anything worn on the head. The photo must be taken no more than 30 days previous to your application being processed.
Provide proof of your Guatemalan nationality by presenting any of the following documents: original birth certificate, certificate of nationality, declaration of nationality, naturalization card or Cedula de Vecindad (Certificate of Residence).
Return to the Guatemalan Embassy and follow the consular's instructions on where to submit your application documents and fees. The passport renewal fee will vary depending on the currency of your country, but can be made payable by credit card, cash or money order. Immediate processing is not available, but you can request expedited service at an extra cost. Otherwise, expect your new Guatemalan passport to be processed within three weeks.
