When traveling by air, you must present a passport book or other valid transportation document when entering the United States.
You must present a U.S. passport card/book or other valid travel document when entering the United States by land or sea.
Children under the age of 16 can present a U.S. birth certificate or other proof of citizenship to enter the United States.
Valid travel documents other than a U.S. passport book/card include: Trusted Traveler Cards, U.S. Military Identification, U.S. Merchant Mariner Document, Native American Tribal Photo ID card and Form I-872 American Indian Card.
The aforementioned documents are needed to enter the United States. The country you are traveling to may require you to show additional documentation.
