How to Get a Jordanian Visa

U.S. citizens visiting Jordan as tourists do not need to apply for a visa in advance. Immigration officers issue standard 30-day tourist visas to American visitors upon arrival at the international airport in Amman and at most land border crossings. These visas cost around $30 (as of April 2011). Take note, however, that visas are not issued at the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge land crossing. Tourists traveling in groups of five or more and booked through a designated Jordanian tour operator receive free visas. Multiple-entry visas cost around $85 and must be obtained in advance from a Jordanian embassy or consular office. Travelers wishing to obtain business visas can do so by following several basic steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to make sure that your passport is valid for more than six months from the date the visa will be issued. The passport should also contain a blank page where the visa will be attached.

    • 2

Download, print and complete the visa application form available on the website of the Jordanian Embassy in the U.S.

    • 3

Affix a recent passport-sized photo to the top right hand corner of the one-page form in the space marked "Attach Recent Photograph Here."

    • 4

Buy a money order worth $37.50 if you wish to obtain a single-entry business visa valid for a month, or $97.50 if you require a multiple-entry business visa valid for six months. Only money orders made payable to "the Embassy of Jordan" will be accepted.

    • 5

Ask your employer to write you a letter stating the purpose of your trip to Jordan. The letter should be on paper containing a company letterhead and be signed by a manager or senior executive.

    • 6

Sign and date the form and send it to the Jordanian Embassy in Washington, D.C., along with the other documentation -- including your passport. Include a self-addressed express envelope with the necessary postage stamps attached.

    • 7

Check your passport and visa for errors or damage when they arrive at your address. Visa processing normally takes five working days. The visa section of the Jordanian Embassy is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
