Tutorial for How to Make Backpack Straps With Webbing

No backpack lasts forever. It is the straps on the backpack that are the most vulnerable to breakage because the straps are what hold the entire weight of the backpack on its owner. If your straps break, you could simply go out and buy a new backpack. With a little bit of ingenuity, however, you can easily replace the straps with a few pieces of material and some simple sewing skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out pieces of webbing in adequate lengths. Run a lighter flame gently over the edges of the webbing to seal off any threads or unraveling fabric.

    • 2

Thread your webbing through a D-ring, O ring or square ring.

    • 3

Hold the sides of the webbing together. Sew the short piece to the long piece by sewing an “X” shape through both sides.

    • 4

Thread another short piece of the strap through a tri-glide. Fold the short piece hanging out of the tri-glide and sew to the two new sides together.

    • 5

Thread the long piece from the D-ring through the tri-glide. You should now have a long adjustable strap and two shorter loops to attach to your backpack.

    • 6

Place one of the loops against the upper side of your backpack, just above where your shoulder should go. Sew it together. Repeat the process on the other end of your backpack.

    • 7

Repeat this entire process to create the second strap for your backpack.
