Obtain a valid U.S. passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Vietnam. This is standard procedure for all visa application approvals as travelers' plans often change while abroad.
Download the visa application from the Vietnam embassy website at www.vietnamembassy.us/consular_services/. Provide the necessary information, including biographical data like name, date of birth, address. It also requires that you list the purpose of your visit to Vietnam and intended length of stay. You are required to also list your passport number, date of issue and date of expiration. Glue a 2 x 2-inch photo of yourself on the upper right hand corner of the first page of the application.
Obtain a money order for the visa fees made out to "The Embassy of Vietnam." The fees for visa processing change regularly, so check the cost with the embassy or by e-mailing: [email protected].
Mail or hand delivery your passport, application and money order to the Vietnam embassy. Mailed applications must include a pre-paid return envelope if you wish your visa and passport to be returned to you by mail. Otherwise it will be available for pick-up upon approval. Visa processing takes around five days to complete.
