What Is a VFS Visa?

"VFS" refers to "Visa Facilitation Services," an Indian company that provides the administrative processes for obtaining and maintaining travel visas. VFS Global, the company's full name, is a subsidiary of Kuoni India, a travel and tourism conglomerate based in Mumbai.
  1. Roots in India

    • VFS Global was established in Mumbai and quickly expanded to Singapore.

VFS Global was established in India in 2001 specifically to provide visa services to Indians traveling to the United States. The company later obtained a contract with the United States government to process the paperwork required to secure a visa.

    Expansion

    • In 2009, VFS Global opened an office in Washington, D.C.

Since 2001, VFS Global has expanded dramatically. The company now has more than 360 visa application centers in 48 countries. VFS Global's clients are the destination countries. So, for example, VFS processes visa applications for the United States in India.

    No Guarantee

    • Homeland Security inspectors determine who can enter the United States.

While VFS has expertise in processing paperwork, using VFS to prepare a visa application does not guarantee that a visa will be granted. All decisions on whether to grant a visa and ultimately to allow travel to the United States are made by the U.S. government.
