One of Orange County's better-known theaters, the Chance Theater, offers fare ranging from advanced guard plays by British writers to Broadway musicals, such as "Into the Woods" and "The Fantasticks." With fewer than 50 seats, the venue enhances intimacy between the audience and performers.
From the outside, Cinema City looks like any ordinary movie theater. Inside, you'll find the stadium seating, overpriced popcorn and first-run features of any multiplex, but there's one difference--the price of the entertainment. The movie house charges a third less than its competitors. Prices are even cheaper during matinees, making it popular for families and those on a budget. And once a month, they run a classic movie series.
The Peralta Adobe, the only original adobe house remaining in the area, was built in 1871 and occupied by a succession of locals until it became a restaurant in 1920. In 1977, the property was ceded to the Environmental Management Agency, which leased it out as a museum that opened in 1986. Today, the historical site and museum features artifacts from the site, a period room, a timeline mural and historical photographs.
Those who prefer outdoor activity can visit the four connecting lakes that define Yorba Regional Park. Aside from such aquatic delights as fishing and model boating, the park boasts more than 400 picnic tables as well as a biking and equestrian trail that hooks up to the 20-mile Santa Ana River trail. Naturally, playgrounds, physical fitness stations and sport courts also abound.
Golfers can play the Anaheim Hills Golf Course, which has oaks and sycamores growing among soothing valleys and hills. A small stream wanders by most of the 18 greens before widening into a significant water hazard at the seventh hole. You also can relax at the 30,000-square-foot clubhouse, which has a grill and sports bar.
Dad Miller is another area golf course that is home to the Anaheim Golf Academy, which offers one-day golf lessons that include 18 holes with a pro. A chipping green, a night-lighted driving range, a lake and a restaurant and cocktail lounge complement the well-manicured fairways.
