How to Transfer MBNA Travel Rewards to Aeroplan

The Canadian frequent flyer program Aeroplan allows you to earn points by doing business with its partners and spend the points on travel. Aeroplan severely limits members' opportunities to convert points earned elsewhere to Aeroplan miles. However, working through these partners, you may be able to transfer non-partner points, such as MBNA Travel Rewards, to your Aeroplan account. The process can be time-consuming and complicated, so you should not undertake it if you are booking travel soon.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an account with a partner of both MBNA Travel Rewards and Aeroplan that allows conversion of points (See Resources.). Preferably, you should choose a program you already have an account -- and are earning points -- with.

    • 2

Connect your MBNA Travel Rewards account to the third-party partner account. Once the connection is confirmed, transfer points to that account. This is by far the most difficult step, since there are severe limits on the MBNA Travel Rewards program and it only infrequently offers point exchanges. The level and type of card you hold also may limit your transfer activity.

    • 3

De-link your MBNA Travel Rewards account from the partner account. This is important to avoid limits placed on accounts with links to both Aeroplan and MBNA. You may need to allow time to pass and earn additional points on the partner account before you are allowed to transfer points to Aeroplan.

Link your Aeroplan account to the third-party account. Once the connection is confirmed, transfer points to your Aeroplan account.
