Texas Getaways With Four Wheelers

Texas is the biggest state in the country and, with its diversity of terrain, finding a good place to break out the ATVs and escape every day life isn't especially difficult to do. While the state offers good riding in all corners, the east, between Dallas/Fort Worth and the Gulf of Mexico, dominates with a majority of four-wheeler getaway destinations.
  1. Outlaw ATV Park

    • Located just 15 minutes to the east of Houston, Texas, Outlaw ATV Park is a privately-owned sanctuary for those looking to take out their aggression on a four-wheeler. The park offers a variety of terrain for everyone from the beginner to the glory seeking mud hole dog. While you won't find a lodge house you will find camping on-site where you can associate with your fellow ATVers and plot your course for the next day of riding. Bring your RV, because they also have water and electric hook ups for those looking to get out of the elements. And, if camping isn't your style, there's a selection of lodging option in Crosby and Humble, Texas, which are three and eight miles away respectively.

    Rocky Ridge Ranch

    • Rocky Ridge Ranch is 30 miles to the west and north of Dallas/Fort Worth and features Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands. The ranch is only open to the general public during the weekend, starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and shutting down at 9 p.m. on Sunday. There is no lodging on site but you can camp or bring your RV. If you'd like to do some riding during the week, they do take reservations for weekday riding. Riders will find miles of wooded trails along with creek beds, hills and jumps, and for those who want a diversion, there's a 50 acres lake where you can catch some fish for dinner.

    • Located to the south and east of Dallas/Fort Worth, just outside the town of Jacksonville, The River Run ATV Park offers scenic and challenging ATV trails on the shores of the Neches River. Once again, you'll find camping, bathrooms and even a hot shower. If you want something more, the Park has a partnership with the Quality Inn located in Palestine, which is 17 miles away from River Run. For the rider, there are miles of trails that run along the river, oil field roads for flat cruising and mud holes for getting deep and dirty.
